Label TextThompson began his interest in art as an amateur sketcher and evidently at least experimented with oil. This self-portrait is a rarity and may well be the only extant painting by Thompson. The artist has shown himself here in a shoulder-length, frontally-posed portrait, sporting a moustache and small beard. He wears a dark jacket and a white shirt. The facial features match those of Thompson as recorded in known photographs of him.
