Label TextAs was often the case with newly elected Academicians, Weir contributed a diploma piece "left over" from an earlier part of his career. Demonstrating little of the vigor of his paintings of the late 1880s, the work is dark and contemplative, with a smooth paint surface. The format, however, is close to that of a later work, Anna Looking Down (private collection).This painting has no inscription; the date of 1882 was proposed by Doreen Bolger Burke.
