Label TextWhen Samuel Lovett Waldo and William Jewett were elected associate members of the Academy they proceeded to paint each other's diploma portraits. According to records in the Academy's files, Waldo's portrait of Jewett was originally inscribed on the reverse, "Portrait of Wm. Jewett by Saml. L. Waldo, 1848. Associated artists for 35 years."
