Label TextRogers was one of New York's leading miniaturists of the early 19th century. He began exhibiting his works at the American Academy of Fine Arts in 1817. In 1825 tuberculosis forced him to halt his career temporarily, but when the National Academy of Design was formed in 1826 he was named one of the
"second fifteen," the group of artists chosen for membership by the organization's original, "first fifteen" founders. Rogers exhibited his miniatures in the Academy's annual exhibitions until 1830.
