Label TextThe prominent impasto utilized by Vinton indicates a legacy of his Munich training. The bravura technique, however, may also be seen as foreshadowing his later disposition toward impressionism, perhaps encouraged by his friendship with EugŠne Boudin.Upon acceptance of Vinton's diploma portrait, T.A. Richards wrote to him on behalf of the Academy: "It is a strong, spirited head and deserves higher praise than you seem disposed to award it. If it has any fault it is that it cannot be cut down without injury to the regulation size of 17 x 21 inches."
