Label Text"The Spaniard" was painted in Segovia in 1914, and features a man from this city or from the nearby village of Sepulveda. He apparently served regularly as a model for the Spanish painter Ignacio Zuluoga, with whom Seyffert studied in the same year. The work recalls the paintings of his teacher with its bravura brushwork, vibrant colors, emphasis on pattern and powerful delineation of character.
