Label TextBy a competition held in 1972, the Council awarded De Lue the commission for his design for the medal commemorating the Academy's 150th anniversary. In 1975 De Lue altered the design slightly to remove the dating in the inscription on the obverse of the medal so it could serve as the National Academy of Design's Gold Medal for Sculpture.
