Label TextIt is likely that Rice's large portrait of his teacher was begun in 1886, before the execution of 1064-P, Beckwith's diploma portrait. Beckwith's diary lists repeated posing sessions with Rice in April 1886, before the 12 May Annual Meeting in which the former was elected an Associate. The subject's youthful appearance corroborates a date in this early period of his career.
