Label Text"The Wood Cart" (The Metropolitan Museum of Art), painted shortly after Dessar's diploma picture, depicts a similar lone figure atop a wagon pointed away from the viewer. The immediate models for these paintings may have come from his Connecticut farm, but in subject choice, mood, and facture, they reflect the powerful influence on Dessar of Jean-François Millet's paintings of French peasants.
