Label TextThe formal resolution of acceptance for this painting seems to have escaped notation in Academy Council minutes. However, Hibbard had qualified at least by the time the catalogue accompanying the 1936 annual exhibition was printed: his name appears with full Academician designation for the first time in that year's list of members.

Only in 1997, when this painting came under a conservator's scrutiny, was it discovered that it was stretched over another canvas. Faint evidence of a landscape scene on the under-canvas can be detected through an opaque gesso layer, certainly applied by Hibbard himself.
