Label TextCalder, with Charles Grafly and Edward Redfield, were Henri's fellow students at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, from 1886 to 1888. Elected to the Society of American Artists in 1905, Calder automatically received his title as Associate of the National Academy with the merger of the two organizations the following year. Although not required to secure his membership with the presentation of a portrait, Calder, along with a number of his colleagues from the Society, chose to add his likeness to the Academy's collection of members' portraits.
