Charles Reid studied at the University of Vermont and the Art Students League in New York. He has earned awards and prizes from the Salmagundi Club, the American Watercolor Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. At the National Academy, he has won the Altman Prize (1974), the Carlsen Prize 91984), the Clarke Prize (1978), the Hallgarten Prize (1971), and the Salmagundi Prize (1975). His work is in public collections at Smith College, Northhampton, Massachusetts; and Brigham Young University, Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the author of several books on the techniques of painting in oil and in watercolor.
