Anton Refregier studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; and with Hans Hoffmann in Munich, Germany. He won a Hallmark Art Exhibition Prize and a Gerstle Mack Award, San Francisco, California. His work is included in public collections such as: the Museum of Modern Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art, all New York City; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN. His murals are located in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; Syracuse University, NY [done between 1958 and 1965, prob. 1963: Triumph of Logic and Reason over superstition and Evil part of SU art school program to teach by apprenticeship on execution of real mural]; the US Post Office, San Francisco, CA. His is (was) the author of several books including An Artist's Journey. He was an artist correspondent for Fortune magazine. Among his teaching appointments were: the Cleveland School of Fine Art, Ohio; and Bard College, _______, New York.
