Abraham Rattner studied at George Washington University, Georgetown Medical College, and the Corcoran School of Art, all Washington, DC. Later he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Art; the Academies of the Grand ChaumiŠre and Ranson. Among his honors were: A Cresson Fellowship, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; a Temple Gold Medal, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; a prize, the Pepsi-Cola Fourth Annual Art Competition, and Honorable Mention, the Carnegie Institute Exhibition of American Painting, Pittsburgh. He was awarded an Honorable Ph.D. of Humanitites, Michigan State University. He was active as a muralist, illustrator and printmaker as well as a painter. His works are in such collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC; and the Vatican Museum of Comtemporary Art, Rome, Italy.
