Kriesberg studied at the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. He did three years of post-graduate work at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas in Mexico City and received an M.A. from New York University. On a Fulbright Fellowship he traveled to India in 1965-66 and has been the recipient of a New York State Cretive Artists Public Service Award (1972); a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Memorial Award (1977); and a National Endowment for the Arts Award (1981).
Among his public commissions are murals for Beth Emet in Evanston, Illinois (1972), and the Peace Dove Banner for the New York Cultural Center (1982). He has taught at the Yale University Graduate School and the State University of New York and has authored several books on painting technique and theory.
