Fletcher Martin was self taught and considered that his art training was enhanced by association with artists such as Foujita, Yasuo Kuniyosh, Alexander Brook and Louis Bouch‚, among others he met in Woodstock, NY. He assisted ________ Siqueiros on a mural and painted others. He was a printmaker, an illustrator and an artist war correspondent for Life magazine. Among his awards were: a painting prize, the Los Angeles County Art Museum; the Lippencott Prize and Clark Prize, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Altman Prize, the National Academy of Design; and a gold medal, the Philadelphia Art Directors Club. Among his teaching positions were: the State University of Iowa, Iowa City; the Kansas City Art Institute; the Art Students League Summer School, Woodstock, NY; and the University of Florida, Gainsville. Late in life he lived in Mexico and Sarasota, Florida.
