Jones studied at the Chester Springs and Winter School of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Among his teachers were George Frederick Holschuh, Charles Rudy and Walker Hancock. He has also studied with and worked in the studios of Jo Davidson and Paul Manship.
He executed numerous portrait medals and busts including those of Brother E. Alfred, President Emeritus, La Salle College; General Clair Lee Chennault; Dr. J. N. Wilder, Founder, University of Rochester; the sculptor Jo Davidson; and the muscician Dizzy Gillespie. Architectural sculpture by Jones decorates the facades of the Mayflower and Eastbourne Hotels in Atlantic City, New Jersey; the Child and Youth Center of the Philadelphia Psychiatric Hospital; and the Woodland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia. Large religious works are at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Warren, Ohio, and Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. Among his medallic works is the Newcomb Cleveland Medal of the American Association for the Advancment of Science (1964). His Great Seal of Philadelphia was executed in 1965 for the Municipal Services Building, Philadelphia.
