Marguiles studied at Cooper Union Art School, New York (1938-40) and later received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1974) and his M.A. at C.W. Post College, Brookville, New York (1975). Among his honors were two Awards of Excellence from the Hecksher Museum in 1978 and 1979, and the Council of American Artists Award from the National Sculpture Society in 1979. The later organization also presented him with a gold medal in 1980. He is a fellow in the National Sculpture Society where he served on the Executive Council from 1987-1992.

Marguiles has had numerous solo exhibitions in New York, including those at the Suffolk Museum, Stony Brook, New York (1974), and the Ambassador Gallery, New York (1991-92); and a continuous gallery exhibition from 1977-92 at Joel Meisner Galleries, Long Island and New York. He has also been exhibited repeatedly in group shows at the Hecksher Museum, Huntington, New York, and at the National Academy. Marguiles was on the faculty of C.W. Post College from 1975-77.
