American, 1898 - 1989
Coiner studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Starting his career in Philadelphia as a designer, he created a number of poster and insignia designs on commission from United States government agencies, the most celebrated of which was the "Blue Eagle" symbol of the National Recovery Act (NRA) introduced in 1933. In about 1960 Coiner altered his focus to the fine arts, launching an equally successful career as a painter. His interest in fishing, travels--especially in Ireland and Scotland, for the salmon--and his summer retreat in Canada, are reflected in his lyrical landscape interpretations in watercolor as well as oil media.
Coiner resides in Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania, and is represented by Midtown Galleries, New York.
