Ciampaglia studied at the Academy school 1908-09 and from 1910 to 1915; he also was a student at the Cooper Union. Ciampaglia was unusually detailed in completing the Academy's biographical questionnaire at the time of his election:
Won Prix de Rome in 1920 which gave me the privilege of studying the following three years at the American (Academy) in Rome, Italy, with its attendent travels in various countries. Then I returned to New York. Shortly afterwards I executed a commission for Harry Sternfeld, architect of Philadelphia, to decorate the house of Mr. Frank Potter of Rome, New York. Also the tile decoration for the swimming pool of the Greenhill Farms Hotel, Philadelphia, Penna. For the architect, E.G. Deacy of New York, I designed the mosaic decorations in the Chapel of the Fairmount Mousoleum, Newark, NJ. I made sketches and color schemes for the Masonic Temple in Scranton, Penna. for Raymond Hood, architect of New York. Corbett, Harrison and MacMurry, architects, commissioned me to execute the painted decorations in the vestibule of the home of David Milton. Also painted numerous portraits of distinguished people. Recently completed numerous murals for the Texas Centennial Exposition of 1936 in Dallas, Texas.
Ciampaglia also did murals in niches and on ceilings for the reception rooms and recreation corridors, First Slovak Girls Academy, Danville, PA; murals for the Sunbury Court House, Sunbury, PA; two murals in the Food Building for the 1939 New York World's Fair; and in the same year, murals for the post office in Cuthbert, Georgia, "Last Indian Troubles in Randolph County--1836.
