Newmark attended Alfred University and Adelphi College; she studied with Paul Brown. The National Academy has awarded her work several times, with the Speyer Prize in 1974 and again in 1993, and the Artists Fund Prize in 1982. She has also been honored by the National Sculpture Society, the Allied Artists of America, the American Artists Professional League, and the Hudson Valley Art Association. Newmark has had solo shows at Fasig-Tipton, Saratoga, New York (1976) and at Belmont Park, Elmont, New York (1977 and 1979).

Primarily a sculptor of horses, Newmark is represented in the collections of the National Museum of Racing, Saratoga, and the Thoroughbread Racing Association, Lexington, Kentucky She serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Animal Artists and she resides in East Hills, New York.
