Born in 1941, Brian Paulsen is an American artist and printmaker. He lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he taught at the University of North Dakota from 1973 to 2007.

Paulsen received his B.A. from University of Washington and his M.F.A. from Washington State University. He has taught at various prestigious institutions, such as Chico State College, the University of Calgary, and the University of North Dakota. He has also served as a visiting artist at numerous institutions, such as University of Kansas, University of Minnesota, Minot State University, University of SD, Northern State College, Arizona State University, Midwestern State University, and Springfield Art Museum.

Paulsen has won numerous awards, such as the Artist Fellowship Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Summer Professor Stipend, the Faculty Research Awards from University of North Dakota, the College of Fine Arts Enhancement Award, and the Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor Award from University of North Dakota.
