Japanese/American, b. 1938
Yasu Eguchi was born in Japan in 1938. Eguchi grew up in the catastrophic years of World War Two. During the 1960s he began painting as an Abstract Expressionist and gained success in his native country. In 1967 he immigrated to Santa Barbara and in 1969 relocated to New York City where he painted in a western style before fusing his work into the bold impressionism of the West with the sensitive calligraphy of the East. He eventually abandoned canvas and oils and, with the reawakening of his Japanese influence, today works only with paper and watercolors. He currently lives in Santa Barbara.
