for John Adams Parker Jr.
1827/9 - 1900
After graduating from New York University, Parker worked for seven years as a merchant. In 1858, however, he began showing landscapes at Academy Annuals. He also enrolled in the NAD Life School for the 1861-2 season. Parker took his subjects from the Adirondacks, Catskills, and White Mountains. He was elected an associate member of the Academy in 1868. Although he was a regular contributor until 1886, he suddenly stopped submitting work to the Academy, causing his name to be dropped from the list of members in 1888. He died in Brooklyn in 1900, where he had helped found the Brooklyn Art Club.
