Frederick Hirons came to the United States in his youth. He graduated from MIT in 1903 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in the atelier of Laloux (1904-1909). Upon his return to the United States he opened an office in New York City and later was a partner in the firm Denison and Hirons. In 1910 he married Edna Post. He was a founder of the Beaux Arts Institute of Design in New York City and was professor of architecture at Columbia University 1922-26.
His important works include the George Rogers Clark Memorial in Vincennes, Indiana; the War Memorial Auditorium in Worcester, Mass.; the Rockland County Court House, New York, and the Beaux Arts Institute of Design on 44th Street.
