Mary Gray studied in New York under Cecilia Beaux, William Merritt Chase, and Felice W. Howell. She specialized in painting still lifes and interiors and was represented by Grand Central Art Galleries, New York. In 1947 she moved from Pine Orchard, Connecticut, to Guilford. She was married to Howard M. Whiting.
