Theodore E. Blake graduated from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1888 and then augmented that study by taking classes at the Cooper Union in New York. He entered the architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings in 1888 as a draftsman. In 1892 he went to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Upon his return in 1895 he became an associate in the Carrère and Hastings office, remaining until 1927, when he established his own practice.
Among Blake's major works are: the Mount Hope Bridge, Providence, Rhode Island; House and the Senate office buildings in Washington, D.C.; the Manhattan Bridge, New York; and the Second Church of Christ, Scientist, New York.
