for Arthur Freeman Brinckerhoff

Brinckerhoff received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 1902 and subsequently began working in the architectural firm Vitale, Brinckerhoff & Geiffert in New York. During World War I he served in the construction division of the U. S. Army. After the war he turned to landscape architecture, and in 1924 he established his own firm. In addition to designing gardens for numerous large estates in the northeast, Brinckerhoff also designed housing projects on Staten Island and in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In 1939 and 1940 he served as a consultant in the architectural design for the New York World's Fair.
Brinckerhoff was president of the Fine Arts Federation of New York, and a director of the Municipal Arts Society of New York. He remained active as an architect until the last years of his life.
