Label TextBorn in Spain and raised in Mexico, Gonzales eventually moved to the U.S. and studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1920s. During World War II he served as an artist for the Army and Navy in Washington D.C. By the 1950s, works such as Cannabin began to show elements of abstraction, surely an influence of the growing popularity of Abstract Expressionism.
