Label TextKnown for his robust figure paintings, landscapes, still lifes, and numerous self-portraits, Paul Georges studied with Fernand Léger and Hans Hofmann but ultimately rejected abstraction in favor of a painterly representational style. In 1969, he was a founder of the Alliance of Figurative Artists, a forum in which representational artists could present work, lecture, receive critical feedback, and participate in panel discussions. "Red Self-Portrait" shows the artist caught in the act of creation holding his palette and brush with a slightly startled expression on his face.
