Label TextWyeth was one of the youngest members elected to the National Academy, becoming a full member in 1945 at the age of twenty-eight. Waiting for a Bus exhibits his tendency at the time to show solitary figures within a landscape, and at a contemplative psychological remove from the viewer. The artist had a special affinity for winter scenes. Often in his pictures of winter he made effective use of the whiteness of the paper. Wyeth related that he loved “the bleakness of winter and snow . . . . I’m taken by the bleakness – the quiet, the chill reality of winter.”
