Label TextIn 1982 James Polshek was commissioned to design a resource recovery facility in San Marcos, California, north of San Diego. It was intended to be a state-of-the-art facility that would convert refuse into electricity through incineration. Polshek created a small museum attached to the facility that would serve the community as an educational center about the recycling process. In addition, the project would be surrounded by lush gardens filled with native southern California plants, flowers, and eucalyptus trees. The essence of the unrealized project, in the words of the architect, was “to explain the employment of high technology to a public concerned about its effect on the environment.” In the end, however, the project was not built.Collections
