Label TextThe Council added to its resolution in acceptance of this portrait, "but the Secretary was directed to request Mr. Wiggins to replace his contribution as soon as practicable with a more satisfactory work." There is no record of a later substitution for the portrait. However, the fact that Creifelds's portrait was included in the annual exhibition that opened the following month suggests that in April, at least, it was judged "satisfactory." It is not known whether the exhibited work was the original portrait, perhaps reworked, or a new, quickly painted replacement.
