Label TextRichards’ interest in landscape painting re-emerged during the last several years of his life. Trees in the New Forest, England recalls his forest landscapes of around 1870, such as Woods and Brook. Richards authority Linda Ferber has noted that although the artist’s “handling broadened with time, and the palette of some late works reveals a limited impressionist influence, the essential nature of his vision never altered, for his perception of nature was still steeped in an idealism that divined a spiritual significance behind the appearance of reality.”
