Label TextIngham was one of the founders of the New York Drawing Association, which developed into the National Academy of Design in 1826. Three years later he became the originator and first president of the Sketch Club, made up of artists, writers, scientists, collectors and lovers of art, which formed for the purpose of “mutual improvement in drawing.” The group eventually grew into the Century Association. Ingham had a long and serious interest in drawing. At the age of 13 he began studying drawing at the Royal Dublin Society in his native Ireland. During his career he was especially regarded for his likenesses of young women and children. This exhibition also includes a sketchbook by the artist.
