Label TextThis drawing relates to Hall’s large oil of Shakespeare seated holding a pen in his hand. The artist brought the painting with him on a visit to England and gave it as a gift to the Memorial Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon (now the Royal Shakespeare Theatre). Hall is known to have worked on the painting for a number of years, finally completing it in 1896.
