Label TextThe genre and still-life painter George Henry Hall often traveled to Europe and North Africa. He visited Italy frequently and his trips there provided picturesque subject matter for his work. Hall resided in Rome for most of 1872 and 1873. In May 1873 he visited Tivoli, which is located about 30 km. outside of Rome. Tivoli has long been famous for its beautiful houses and villas. The watercolors by Hall which are featured in this exhibition are part of a group of more than 200 works on paper by the artist that were donated to the National Academy in 1984.
