Label TextDuring the 19th century, a number of American artists depicted young street vendors. These works featured poor boys and girls engaged in a variety of enterprising activities, and reveal the wide range of social and artistic attitudes toward the children of the burgeoning urban poor. Hall’s drawing was created in Rome in 1890.
