Label TextHardie Gramatky first studied under the influential California painter Clarence Hinkle at Chouinard Art Institute. He later worked as a magazine illustrator and animator at Walt Disney Studios, while continuing to exhibit with other Southern California watercolorists. With its vivid colors and animated execution, this self-portrait reflects the influence that illustration had on some of the watercolorists.
