Label TextHelen Loggie was born in Bellingham, Washington, a pioneer lumber and fishing town. Her father George Loggie was a lumberman. She is noted for her etchings, many of which depict trees in the Northwest. Art critic Ann Friedman once said that Loggie "gave personality to the trees." The title of the work apparently refers to the Goblin King in J.R. Tolkien's book The Hobbit. Loggie also drew forests, meadows and mountain lakes. Most of her drawings were done on Orcas Island in Washington where she maintained a home, and in the virgin forest of the Mount Baker District in Washington.
