Label TextThe acceptance of Aitken's diploma work, Meditation, is recorded in Academy minutes. Over the years, this work came to be designated in registration records simply as Head-Girl. However, there can be no doubt that it is the piece received from the artist in 1914 to confirm his election to Academician.
A version owned at the time by the National Sculpture Society, New York, was exhibited at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy and Albright Art Gallery in 1909 and 1910.
