Label TextMoran and his family made their first visit to south fork of Long Island in 1878, and by 1884 he had built a studio there in the village of East Hampton. Not surprisingly, the extensive beaches and harbors that border the area inspired many of Moran's landscapes from this period. He created a number of scenes in various media-oil and watercolor, paintings, and etchings-of "Three Mile Harbor," which opens off Gardiner's Bay not far from East Hampton.
