Label TextA painter and sculptor, Leiber also produced many prints during the 1960s. He often derived his imagery from New York scenes, in this case Queens Plaza looking toward the Fifty-ninth Street Bridge and Manhattan. The near abstraction of this work relates to the artist's earlier interest in cubism. The dark areas result from the deep biting of the plate, while many of the textural effects come from the use of a netlike cloth in the soft-ground etching process. The color was stenciled on to the plate.
