Label TextAlthough he often depicted rural views of New England, Cheffetz also was among many American printmakers of the 1920's and 1930's attracted to urban settings. A dedicated wood engraver, he realized the potential of using black as a starting point for his forms. He animated this scene with many details, including the wooden railings, bricks, and the lettering of the signs, which was probably punched in with a tiny needle.
