Label TextBendiner, who began making lithographs in the early 1930's, was also known for his sketches of people and places around Philadelphia, scenes from his extensive travels abroad, and for his pursuits as an architect, archaeologist, author, muralist, watercolorist, and raconteur. Among his numerous works by him in various media in the Academy's collection, this lithograph and others express his love of the circus. Using a lithographic crayon as one would a soft-leaded pencil, he revealed his facile draftsmanship and sense of humor.
