Label TextJosephine Tarbell was the subject of many of her father's paintings. The Academy's example was the one chosen to be engraved by Henry Wolf and featured in Harper's Magazine as representative of Tarbell's repeated treatment of the theme of "youth, with its happy unconsciousness.... These young creatures which he is fond of portraying depart from classic lines, but they are nearer life, and show freedom from theatric device."
