Label TextAlthough Inscribed dated, and possibly reworked in early 1895, 1447-P is almost certainly the Self-Portrait that Wood exhibited in the 1894 NAD Autumn Exhibition, said to have been painted in three days. Several publications commented favorably on the portrait, which was considered to be hung in a position of honor in the center of the south wall of the Academy's south gallery. Following the exhibition, Wood gave the painting to the National Academy as a replacement for an earlier self-portrait that had served as his original ANA diploma presentation.Collections
