Label TextThis portrait appeared in the 1911 inventory of the Academy's collection without suggestion of an artist. The registration revision done about a decade later, ascribed it to George Augustus Baker, who was Thompson's neighbor in the Association Building in 1874; the reason for the attribution was not recorded. Similarities to an earlier self-portrait in the Academy's collection suggest that this diploma portrait might also have been executed by Thompson himself.
