Label TextIn Beck’s Self-Portrait of 1975, she uses one of the most famous self-portraits in art history, Gustave Courbet’s The Artist’s Studio: A Real Allegory of a Seven Year Phase in My Artistic and Moral Life (between 1854 and 1855, Musée D’Orsay), as a template for the depiction of her own studio. She reverses the gender of the nude model, adds black cats instead of white dogs and, unlike Courbet, faces the viewer.Collections
