Label TextFollowing the lead and inspiration of the English Pre-Raphaelites, Oakley created powerful images of women heavily draped in medieval garb. Similarly, Oakley found inspiration in the study of history, poetry and the Bible. She felt it was the artist's role to inspire and instruct society, and that art should evoke a moral response.
